Bio


 

Known for her versatility as a timpanist and percussionist, Amy Stubbs enjoys a vibrant career as performer, teacher, inventor, and entrepreneur. Principal Percussionist with Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra and Principal Timpanist with the former Napa Valley Symphony, Amy performers a broad range of styes from orchestra to chamber, HIP to contemporary with ensembles that include: San Francisco Symphony, Chatham Baroque, Monarch Brass Ensemble, River City Brass Band, Syracuse Symphony, Berkeley Symphony, Empyrean Ensemble,

Pittsburgh Baroque Ensemble, San Francisco Bay Brass, Left Coast Ensemble, Moody Blues, Ray Charles, Luciano Pavarotti; tours with River City Brass Band and USAF Heritage of America Band. Recordings include San Francisco Bay Brass; Womens’ Philharmonic; USAF Heritage of America Band; and Grammy® nominated Corpus Evita by Carlos Franzetti with San Francisco Camerata. Solo performance include New Century Chamber Orchestra (Waxman Sinfonietta) and Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony (Kvistad Concerto for Timpani).

 

Passionately sharing her love of music with the next generation, Ms. Stubbs is faculty at University of Pittsburgh, Falk Laboratory School, Pittsburgh Youth Concert Orchestra, and maintains a thriving private studio. As a clinician, Amy has presented master classes at Manhattan School of Music; Universities of Maryland, Southern California, Washington, Wichita State; Interlochen Arts Academy; and Day of Percussion at University of Alabama, Huntsville. Previous faculty positions include the University of California, Davis; Oakland East Bay Symphony MUSE; and Oakland Youth Symphony.

 

Upon graduation from Interlochen Arts Academy, Amy earned a Bachelor of Music degree at Manhattan School of Music studying with Duncan Patton, and a Master of Music degree at Carnegie Mellon University studying with Timothy K. Adams, Jr. Additional studies include: Cloyd Duff, Chris Lamb, Mike Crusoe, Rick Holmes, Tom Stubbs, and Rick Kvistad.

 

Always seeking to enhance the performance capabilities of percussion instruments and performers alike, Amy has developed unique accessories born of her fascination with sound, and experience as a performer. Renown worldwide, A. Stubbs Percussion is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.
